Ice sculpture

Water of a river has made a beautiful ice sculpture. The water is dropping some 3 - 4 meters and forming
different shapes of ice. With very cold temperatures the layers of ice are getting thicker and thicker all the time.

Mysterious house

The water of this small river was steaming when the temperature outside was -24 degrees,
It gave a bit of a mysterious feeling.

Ice breaker in action

This small icebreaker is trying to keep the sea open. The sea looks more like a huge cream pie on the moment.

Milk drops

As I told in the posting before, we did the same experiment also with milk.
Milk and water behaves a little bit different. Milk is a bit thicker then water.
The drops you get are not so exciting as with water. You could almost can say that you get "lazy" drops. But still, the effect is nice.

Water drops

One week ago we did some experiment with two other photographer friends.
We wanted to make pictures from water drops and also some with milk drops.
After building the setup we started to shoot and were hoping to be lucky to catch some drops. You have to try quite many times before you manage to catch them. It's quite nice to see the different shapes of the drops.

More cold days

The winter continues in Finland. This kind of cold weather we have normally in January. Let's see if those scientists from Poland will be right, they said a few months ago that Finland will get the coldest winter ever.....

Islands of ice

Close to our home the river is starting to freeze. On this place the water is floating rapidly and keeps the river partly ice free. Small islands of ice are formed around rocks in the river.

Snowing on just one place?

Two days ago I left home to take some pictures in the harbour. On the way I saw something strange in the woods nearby our home. It was very cold, -20 degrees Celsius and the sun was low in the sky. So it was a clear day, no clouds and sunshine. This is what I saw: it was snowing on a very small area and on a straight line. It was an area of only a few meters broad and about 40 meters long. I have never seen this before and can't explain how this is possible. Snow on a clear day I have seen before. This is what they call in Finland "pakkaslunta" which means that the humidity in the air is changing
to snow or ice during very cold temperatures. So if somebody understands what I saw that day, please let us all know.

Cold day in Helsinki

We had -20 degrees Celcius today in Helsinki. It was cold, but beautiful. The sun was shining and the sky was nice blue. In the harbour I saw this ship, front was covered with a layer of ice. It really gives the feeling of this
"Artic" weather, brrr....

Blue door

Chefchaouen in Morocco is a small town in the Riff mountains. The blue colour which they use to paint the old houses is amazing. The light reflected from those walls is almost mysterious. It's not difficult to wonder around
for days and just watch all those small alley's and the nice painted doors

Wild apes in Morocco

Around the waterfalls of Ouzoud, Morocco, are living three groups of wild apes. Each group consist of about 70 animals. Luckily they are nowdays protected. About 10 years ago there were only some 40 monkeys left. We were lucky to see just a new born in one of the groups.

Seagulls on Plage Blanche

An early morning on Plage Blanche, Morocco. This is a beautiful beach with kilometers of pure clean sand. Some fishermen are living in huts on the beach, otherwise there is nobody living there. One morning the seagulls were all waiting for something, don't know what...The weather was very different from any other day, the wind was bringing very humid and salty air.

Happy Neighbours or neigbours from Hell?

Those "Happy Neighbours" we saw on Samos Island, Greece. One house nicely fixed and the other fallen apart. What a difference! When I made some pictures
an old man came to look what I was doing and told that the house, which is now
fallen apart, used to be a bar. He showed me the wall painting inside, must have been quite a while ago that the bar was in use...

I love Vespa

This is again one picture which I label under "My Antique" items. I found this nice old Vespa in a beautiful
mountain village called Pyrgos on Samos Island, Greece.

Mushrooms in a green sea

These mushrooms made a nice contrast with the green surroundings. They were very small, only about 4 cm high.

Reflection in the water

Beautiful reflection from birch trees in the autumn.

How does a reindeer pee?

 So like this!

Norway

Last bit of autumn colours in Adamsfjord. It was getting dark already which gave a very nice colour to the
 water.

Lapland

Typical view of a river stream in Lapland. Also the reindeers you can't miss on a visit in the North.

White reindeer calf

This white reindeer calf we saw just before Inari, North Lapland. Normally young reindeers don't have this colour, they are more grey. When I went closer to take some pics, the calf was very curious what I was doing.

Lakes in autumn

When we went to Lapland, we came across some beautiful lakes. On both days there was no wind as you can see from the water.

Leaving leafs

That was the autumn for this year. The leafs are leaving and
winter is coming.

Golden Road

A small country road, covered by yellow birch leaves. What a great view!

Whirl pool

Maybe you are wondering: what the heck is this? Is the water frozen? No...it's  a "dead"corner of a river and the water is going around the stone. After that the water continues to follow the normal stream....

Last days of the fall

Today we were lucky with the weather, the sun came through and there were still some leafs on certain trees. Packed my camera and went to the forest with my assistant. Luckily she didn't mind... The light through the leafs was perfect!

Most people come to enjoy the sunset when they are in the Sahara. One day, me and my assistant were sitting on top of the big dune and suddenly came this guy on this cross bike, racing to the top. When he had to go down he was a bit hesitating, it's a damn high dune...

Misty morning

One early morning I walked with my "assistant" and saw mist coming up. I went quickly home to pick up the camera and managed to shoot still the last moment of this beautiful light. Few minutes later the mist was gone.

Beauty of the desert

When people think of the Sahara, they say it's just a place with sand.
Nothing more, nothing less. But the shapes and lines you can find there, are
stunning...Not any landscape is formed by such a a great design.
